Fresher's Day

Fresher’s Day titled “AURORA” was celebrated in the college to welcome its new students Mr. S.M Kant, Director, Youth Welfare, Panjab University, was the chief guest of the occasion

Many colorful and foot tapping dance numbers and music items were presented by the students. The highlight of the day was the modeling contest. Many young beauties walked down the ramp in glittering saris competing for the crown of Miss Fresher 2007. But the coveted title went to Priyanka Kohli. Priyanka Bawa and Amanpreet Kaur were adjudged the first and second runner up respectively, while Monica Aggarwal was crowned Miss Charming.

The Chief Warden of the hostel, Ms. Anita Walia welcomed the students and praised them for their efforts. The hostel warden Ms. Kirna Rani said that this event is held every year to put the new students at ease. It also allows the students to interact with one another, make friends and gives them an opportunity to showcase their talents.

Path

The college ushered the new academic session with an inaugural function. Melodious Sabad Kirtan was performed by the faculty members of the college, Prof. Satish Kumar, Mrs Rupinder Kaur and S. Gurmeet Singh. A Sehaj Path of Guru Granth Sahib was also begun. The bhog of this path will be held at the celebrations of Guru Gobind Singh ji’s birthday the next year in January.

"PRAKRITI" the Environment Society of College

Van Mahotsav was celebrated by the NSS Unit of the college. Sh. Satish Narula, Senior Horticulturist, Punjab Agricultural University, Sector 19, Chandigarh, and Col. J.S Bala, Joint Secretary, Sikh Educational Society were the guests on the occasion. The staff and students of the college renewed their commitment to protecting the environment by planting tree saplings in the college premises.

 

 
All India Conference of Intellectuals

All India Conference of Intellectuals has hold its 26th Punjab & Haryana State Intellectuals’ Conference at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh. H.E. Dr. A.R. Kidwai, Hon.Governor, Haryana was the Chief Guest. He lighted the lamp to inaugurate the event. State Intellectuals’ honor were awarded to eminent luminaries from Punjab & Haryana. They included Sh. Avinash Chandra Mahajan (CMD Allahabad Bank, Kolkata), Dr. S.K. Salwan, VC, PTU Jalandhar, Mrs. Promila Chandra Mohan, Social Worker, Chandigarh, Dr. A.C. Vaid, Principal, GGDSD College Sector 32, Chandigarh, S. Hardev Singh Mattewal, Advocate General Punjab, Prof. S.K. Kulkarni, Panjab University Chandigarh, Mrs. Madhu Bahl, Chairperson Roller Skating Chandigarh, Smt. Maninder Kaur Maan, Director Doon International Mohali.
From Haryana, the awardees included Mrs. Renu Poswal, Chairperson Haryana Welfare Board, Sh. Vivek Sharma, Scientist & Mr. Rohtash Goyal, CMD OMEX Sonepat.
Function was coordinated by Amit Sharma, National Gen. Sec.(AICOI) and Ashok Sharma, National Gen. Sec. (AICOI). Two minute silence was observed in memory of late Shri Bhavya Nidhi Sharma ( Former National Sec. Gen. AICOI)
The Intellectuals’ considered the issue of gender imbalance & the role of intellectuals’. The speakers sensitized the audience about the urgent need to correct gender imbalance in the society. The function saw the presence of Guests of Honour, which included, Dr. S. Farooq, Vice President AICOI, Dr. K.N. Pathak, former V.C. Panjab University Chandigarh.  S.Gurdev Singh Brar  President Sikh Educational Society and other members of  the  College Management attended the occasion. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Harinder Jit Kaur proposed the Vote of Thanks.
